Best Friends. Everybody’s got one. You have one, I have one, even Barney has a whole crew of little kid best friends running around. We all need a best friend to get through the trials and tribulations of everyday life, regardless of whether we’re human or a big giant purple dinosaur. When we read stories about two best friends overcoming differences or banding together to defeat something bigger than either one of them, it warms our heart a little bit. In the Harry Potter series, Harry was lucky enough to not have just one, but two best friends who would go to the ends of the earth and back for him (and did). We say the more the merrier.

It’s not often people come across somebody who gets along with them on the levels of the best friend. Which is why, for this Wattpad Wednesday, our theme is literary best friends. You know, the ones you read about and wished you had, until you realized your bestie was pretty awesome as well? So, friends, without further adieu, our top 5 literary bestfriendships:
1. (Obviously) Harry and Ron - The Harry Potter Series
Ron Weasley has always been a beloved character in the Potterverse. As Harry Potter’s best friend, he is possibly the second-most relevant character in the books. Ron becomes Harry’s very first friend in the wizarding world (or ever, for that matter). Naturally, the title of “best friend” automatically goes to him. In the second book, he agrees to “follow the spiders” despite his fear. If he suffers from true arachnophobia, marching into the Forbidden Forest and meeting Aragog must have been about as pleasant as cutting your own limbs off. Also, Ron is the one who accompanies Harry throughout most of the climaxes of the books, solidifying his position as best friend.
2. Blair and Serena - The Gossip Girl Series
When Serena van der Woodsen unexpectedly returns to New York under a cloud of suspicion, she is initially unwelcome by her best friend Blair Waldorf, the other main gossip girl. Blair is upset by the lack of contact during Serena’s absence, and has assumed the position as ‘queen bee’ on the Manhattan’s social scene. After she returns, Serena van der Woodsen is more focused on changing and becoming a better person, wanting things to return to normal at the same time. Blair and Serena consistently fight and reconcile throughout the show’s subsequent episodes, often dealing with Serena’s tendency to overshadow Blair. Serena and Blair often reconcile after a heartfelt confrontation, and while they continue to argue they always are able to forgive one another their transgressions.
3. Huck and Tom - The Adventures, of Huckleberry Finn/Tom Sawyer:
Huck and Tom have the classic best friend relationship in many ways. In their friendship Tom is the leader and Huck tries to stay out of his way and just does what he is told. This is evident in the beginning when Tom comes to get Huck as they sneak out of the house. Huck lets Tom steal the candle even though money is left to pay for them. As they pass Jim and Tom plays the trick on him, Huck knows that it’s mean to play a trick on Jim but he does nothing to stop it. In Huck’s mind, Tom is better than him, more knowledgeable and creative. This friendship remains the same throughout the book.
4. Calvin and Hobbes:

Calvin is an unbelievably intelligent six-year-old. Hobbes is his tiger friend who plays the role of Jiminy Cricket, casual observer, and savage beast. This strip introduces their dynamic rather well. Calvin’s a grossly misbehaving child, and no matter how he tries, he can’t betray his nature. The strip depicts Calvin’s flights of fantasy and his friendship with Hobbes, and also examines Calvin’s relationships with family and classmates. Hobbes’ dual nature is a defining motif for the strip: to Calvin, Hobbes is a live anthropomorphic tiger; all the other characters see him as an inanimate stuffed toy.
5. Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh:
Christopher Robin, is everyone’s best friend in the 100 Acre Wood, but he is the closest to Winnie the Pooh. That probably because Pooh the bear was gifted to him on his first birthday, it was an Alpha Farnell teddy bear that he named Edward. He is great friends with all the other characters like Piglet, Roo, Rabbit, Tigger, Kanga, Owl and Eeyore. He is always helping his friends with their problems. For example, he helps Pooh getting honey, rescues Tigger and Roo from high trees in the forest, nails Eeyore’s tail back on its right place when it falls off, and rescues Piglet when he is surrounded by water. It is often seen that Christopher is talking and giving advice to Winnie the Pooh, he usually does that by putting his hand around the should of Pooh and then talks to him. Christopher Robin’s often utters the phrase “Silly old bear” and the comic thing about his characters’ depiction is that he wears uneven socks.
