Best-selling author Alexandra Ivy is now on Wattpad to share her newest novel Bound By Darkness (Mobile Wattcode 2685364)!

I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library.

Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy.

For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

Replace Movie Names With “Voldemort”!

We keep noticing on twitter all these #replace____with____ hashtags! What’s this all about, guys? Some of these are hilarious, and we even blogged about this once before, and some of them are just insane. In the past little while we’ve seen #replacemovienameswithbacon, #replacefamousquoteswithduck, and..err..others that are not appropriate to put up on our blog (har har). Today’s hashtag of choice is #replacemovietitleswithvoldemort, and considering all the Harry Potter hype as of late and how bummed out we are after realizing the series is finally over (yes, it took us a month), we think it’s pretty funny. We screencapped some of our favourites for y’all so that you could partake in this hilarity with us.

Social Media Makes This Thriller Even Scarier

Remember those Choose Your Own Adventure books you used to read as a kid? If you want to take the car, turn to page 4. If you want to fly, turn to page 19. And on and on until you reach the end and go back to the beginning again to pick a new route. It was easy to do with a book – unless you read it cover to cover one day when you were bored – but would it be possible to do with a big budget Hollywood film?

Our love of thrillers and audience participation has us riveted to this on-going saga, which is combining social media and user generated ideas with a movie from the director of Disturbia, starring Emmy Rossum and…you.

Replace A Word In A Famous Quote With “Duck”

Happy Friday everyone! Every time we say Friday now we either get Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’ or Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ stuck in our heads. Thanks, pop culture. So because it’s Friday, we wanted to do a fun post for you guys. We were perusing the twitterverse and came across this hilarious and literary (literarious?) trending topic.

What is this trending topic, you ask? Well, thanks for asking, guys! It’s #replaceawordinafamousquotewithduck. At first we weren’t really sure what to make of it. Stuff like that can either be hilarious or … well, not hilarious. These ones were pretty excellent though. We thought some of them were honestly just too great not to share, so we compiled a little list of our favourites for you guys. So, without further ado, our top favourite #replaceawordinafamousquotewithduck tweets!

1. “Yer a Duck, Harry.” - Harry Potter

2. “Walk softly and carry a big duck.” - Theoduck Roosevelt

3. “The duck belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” - Eleanor Roosevelt

4. “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a duck.” Harvey Dent - The Dark Knight

5. “I’m just a girl, standing in front of a duck, asking him to love her..” - Notting Hill

Tips from a Wattpad author on Promoting your book!

Networking and Twitter Part 1 (for Beginner Authors)

Andrea Pearson talks about the basics of how to get more followers on Twitter. Part 1 of three videos.

Check out Andrea’s book, The Key of Kilenya, set to be published in 2 weeks! Start reading the first few chapters on Wattpad now.

“When two vicious wolves chase fourteen-year-old Jacob Clark down a path from our world into another, his life is forever changed. He has no idea they have been sent by the Lorkon—evil, immortal beings who are jealous of powers he doesn’t know he possesses—powers they desire to control.

The inhabitants of the new world desperately need Jacob’s help in recovering a magical key that was stolen by the Lorkon and is somehow linked to him. If he helps them, his life will be at risk. But if chooses not to help them, both our world and theirs will be in danger. The Lorkon will stop at nothing to unleash the power of the key—and Jacob’s special abilities.”

Literary Characters Who Should Be Tweeting

Gregor Samsa, The Metamorphosis

“In Kafka’s famed novella, Gregor Samsa, a traveling salesman, wakes one morning and finds himself transformed into a monstrous bug. Much of The Metamorphosis‘s momentum comes from the fact that Gregor, despite his horrifying confines, retains his consciousness and memories. While we’re not sure how conducive insect legs are to typing, Gregor’s Twitter would certainly be a fascinating platform for him to exercise his lingering humanity.”

Candace “Caddy” Compson, The Sound and the Fury

“Margaret Leighton as Caddy Compson in 1959′s The Sound and the Fury”

“Caddy Compson was the catalyst of William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury – Faulkner has said that he began writing his modernist novel with nothing more than the image of a young girl in muddied underwear sitting in a tree. So much is said about Caddy in the book, yet never does the rebellious, passionate, and fearless Compson girl get to speak for herself. While Caddy’s absence is a part of The Sound and the Fury‘spower, we’d love to see the novel’s true hero develop her own voice and tell us what happened once she left the South.”
